Emergency Overnight Shelter The weather forecast indicates that temperatures will fall below freezing on multiple nights in the coming week. To provide a safe, warm place to sleep for people experiencing homelessness on Vashon, an emergency overnight shelter will open at Vashon Presbyterian Church, at 17708 Vashon Highway SW, across the street from Island Queen. The shelter is staffed by volunteers.

* The emergency shelter will be open on the following nights: Monday through Thursday of the coming week.

* The shelter provides a safe, warm place to stay overnight. Cots and bedding are provided.

* The shelter will open for guests to check in between 6pm and 8pm. There are no in-and-out privileges after the doors close at 8pm.

* By 7am, guests will be asked to leave, and the shelter will close for the day.

* Guests will be asked to agree to community rules, including no firearms or weapons, no smoking indoors, and no pets.

* Guests must be 18 or older, or accompanied by a parent or guardian who is 18 or older. The shelter is not set up to accommodate unaccompanied minors.

* Separate sleeping areas are provided for women and men.

* The shelter will NOT be serving meals, but there will be some snacks available and in the morning before check out there will be coffee and a light breakfast.

* Each guest’s bedding may be stored at the church, for future use by the same person.
