COVID-19 TIP #6

March 14th, 2020 - Posted in Alerts

What to Expect in Coming Weeks Here’s a tip from the experts to help you and your household stay safe from coronavirus COVID-19 Public health agencies say we should expect to see more cases of COVID-19 as testing increases, both locally and around the United States. We should not panic, but keep doing what we’ve been encouraged to do: wash our hands, avoid touching our faces, sanitize objects that lots of people touch, limit time in large groups, and when near others, aim for 6 feet or more of breathing room.

Currently, healthcare providers may test any patient they suspect may have COVID-19.

While testing is becoming more available, there are limitations to obtaining samples and processing lab results rapidly.

Not everybody who feels ill needs to be tested, particularly if they have mild illness.

If you are sick with fever, cough or shortness of breath and are in a high risk group, call your healthcare provider to discuss whether you should be tested for COVID-19.

People at high risk for complications from COVID-19 are:

* People older than 60 years * People with chronic medical conditions * People with weakened immune systems * Pregnant people This series of Voice of Vashon public service announcements on COVID-19 prevention has been compiled from county, state and federal resources as well as other experts.

  • Mujeres embarazadas
