The third and hopefully final tower is now complete. On June 7, 2009 a crew of VoV volunteers dug a 35 foot hole around the pole Puget Sound Energy installed for us. We had the help of Chuck Hearst and Reed Fitzpatrick of Center Creek Tractor and Property Services and their great excavator. Joining in the hard labor were Jeff Hoyt, Rex Stratton, Rick Wallace and Dan Schueler.
Jeff Hoyt organized this project every step of the way, from design to testing to purchasing the equipment to storing it in his garage to installation of all three transmitters. Remember to thank him when you see him next. This is a great community asset.

VoV Standing By Doubles Its Coverage Area |
If you happened to drive by last Wednesday, you saw Assistant Chief Bob Larsen of Vashon Island Fire & Rescue high atop the ladder truck, attaching the legs and antenna. Many thanks to Bob, Chief Hank Lipe and Assistant Chief Brett Kranjcevich for helping us finish the job.
Of course, many, many thanks to Heights Water for agreeing to the idea in the first place and to everyone at Heights for their patience and graciousness throughout. |

In case of emergency, VoV is now -standing by- |
|
Vashon Island has a radio station. It's on the air right now at 1650 AM. To the FCC, we're known as WQHK904. Here on the Island, you'll know us as Voice of Vashon Standing By.
The name serves as a kind of statement of purpose. Should disaster strike, such as an earthquake or even another serious windstorm, there will be information you need: What roads are closed? When will the ferries run again? Where can I find emergency shelter? How do I get potable water? |

Voice of Vashon serves our Island community in three ways. We are:
- A cable public access television station, VoV-TV on Comcast cable channel 21
- A community Internet radio station, webcasting right here at www.voiceofvashon.org.
- A community bulletin board and emergency alert radio station, VoV Standing By at 1650AM.
Here on this website we hope you'll enjoy our sometimes eclectic and always fun programming. It's a mix of Vashon musicians, Island interviews and news, our own Church of Great Rain variety show and lots of other community radio stuff. It's home grown. It's fun. And we're real glad you're here!
