VoV Standing By Doubles Its Coverage Area |
If you happened to drive by last Wednesday, you saw Assistant Chief Bob Larsen of Vashon Island Fire & Rescue high atop the ladder truck, attaching the legs and antenna. Many thanks to Bob, Chief Hank Lipe and Assistant Chief Brett Kranjcevich for helping us finish the job.
Of course, many, many thanks to Heights Water for agreeing to the idea in the first place and to everyone at Heights for their patience and graciousness throughout.
Thanks also to VoV engineer Steve Allen for all his work in getting the antenna hooked up and the signal dialed in. The tower itself was designed and built by renowned Island metal sculptor Mark Bennion. This was no small engineering feat! Volunteers from Vashon Rowing Club did much of the heavy lifting during the actual installation (thanks Bruce Morser, Colby Atwood, and David Weller). Thanks to Michael Monteleone for shooting video and David Weller for shooting stills of the installation. And a final thank you to Dave Straube, Bob Powell, and the Vashon Maury Radio Club for their assistance hanging cabinets and hooking up all of the electronics (they even donated the cable that connects the transmitter to the antenna!!). It took quite the team effort. Next task: transmitter #3 in Dockton and even better Island signal coverage. Stay tuned! |
