Storm Preparation

December 11th, 2014 - Posted in Alerts

Here’s a message from Puget Sound Energy and our Community Services Manager, Patti McClements.

PSE remains on high alert and is preparing for the wind that is predicted to arrive this afternoon. While the predictions specific to Vashon Island are milder than the rest of the region, it’s worth preparing on Vashon-Maury Islands.
PSE is preparing for possible widespread power outages with strong winds forecasted for later today. More than 30 crews (3-4 people per crew using 2 to 3 vehicles) have arrived in our area from around the Northwest to help with expected restoration efforts.
Some teams have traveled from Eastern Washington and British Columbia. They will be deployed, along with PSE crews, to repair transmission and distribution systems once outages occur.

Please remember that your safety is the first priority. If you encounter downed power lines, stay clear and report them to PSE at 1-888-225-5773 or 911.
As this storm develops we will provide updates and information to keep you up-to-date with what’s happening in our community.

Voice of Vashon thanks Windermere Vashon Real Estate for its support, making this bulletin and our Emergency Alert Service possible. We encourage you to develop your 1650AM listening habit because it may be your only source of information in a serious island emergency.
