Island Crossroads – Vashon and the AIDS Crisis

November 26th, 2018 by Eric Pryne

VASHON AND THE AIDS CRISIS

The AIDS crisis of the 1980s and 1990s took the lives of at least 14 Vashonites. Longtime Islander Peter Serko has organized a four-day multi-media commemoration in conjunction with World AIDS Day to remember them, and to explore what lessons the epidemic has for us today. Host Eric Pryne talks with Peter Serko; Kathy Shafel, hospice chaplain and a founder of the Vashon Gray Pride Alliance; and Stephen Silha, past president of AIDS Housing of Washington, about Vashon World AIDS Day, and about how the crisis touched Vashon.
