Brian Brown, host of The Brown Briefly, passed away Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 84. Brian’s show is a very funny roundtable conversation on the state of our world. We will miss Brian’s unique combination of intelligence, gracious spirit and humor.

With nearly four decades of working in the print media, broadcast and entertainment industries under his belt, islander Brian Brown has a treasure trove of entertaining stories to share.

In this episode of VCC’s Telling Stories speaker series, Brown, who moved to Vashon in 2007 with his wife Sheila, regales us with some of his most memorable stories from his 30 years working for Time magazine in New York. Brian’s stint as a comedy writer for Second City Television and five years spent on the New York stand-up comedy circuit comes through as he shares personal stories of events that have shaped our world: the Vietnam War protests, civil rights demonstrations, the 1968 Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, Henry Kissinger and the White House Years, Marilyn Monroe, John Glenn, the controversy surrounding Time’s selection of Ayatullah Khomeini as its 1980 Man of the Year, and so much more.
