Island Crossroads – Vashon Heritage Museum Show
March 19th, 2018 by Eric Pryne
VASHON’S JAPANESE-AMERICANS
In April 2018 the Vashon Heritage Museum unveils a new exhibit that tells the century-plus-old story of Japanese-Americans on Vashon. It’s titled “Joy and Heartache.” The joy: The apparent integration of people of Japanese descent into island life in the 1930s. The heartache: Their exile and imprisonment just a few years later. Host Eric Pryne discusses the exhibit and the people whose story it tells with four islanders who helped put it together: Rita Brogan, Bruce Haulman, Alice Larson and Joe Okimoto.
