A grieving mother killer whale toting her dead newborn around the Salish Sea for 17 days has focused unprecedented attention on the plight of the endangered southern resident orca population. Three island experts–Joseph Bogaard of Save Our Wild Salmon, marine mammal veterinarian Tag Gornall, and Ann Stateler (Orca Annie) of the Vashon Hydrophone Project–talk with host Eric Pryne about the orcas’ status and the role Vashon plays in the ecosystem that supports them.
