PSA ~ Picnics To Go

June 18th, 2021 by VoV

Picnics in the Park is a program that the Vashon Food Bank and the Vashon Island School District initiated eight years ago to make sure that kids who got their lunches at school continue to receive free nutritious lunches over the summer. This summer, adjusting to the limitations the COVID-19 pandemic has foisted on all of us, Picnics in the Park 2021 is Picnics to Go, and these lunches of sandwiches, fruits, vegetables and snacks can be picked up at the High School between ten in the morning till one in the afternoon beginning on June 21st, the first day of summer vacation, till August 20th , the last day of vacation. But wait, there’s more. To make these lunches available under widely varying conditions, they can also be picked up at any one of twelve different drop-off locations on Vashon and Maury Islands.

And that option goes this way: at the Eernisse Apartments from 9:30 to 9:40; the Park and Ride at Ober Park from 9:45 to 9:55; the Lower North End Parking lot from 10:05 to 10:15; the Havurat Synagogue from 10:25 to 10:35; the Lisabuela Church from 10:40 to 10:50; the Tahlequah Ferry Terminal from 11:05 to 11:15; the Inspiration Point Lookout from 11:20 to 11:30; at the Burton Store from 11:35 to 11:45; Kingsbury Road, behind Engels from 11:50 to noon; the Dockton Fire Station from 12:10 to 12:20; the Upper Gold Beach Bus Stop from 12:25 to 12:35; and Ellisport and Portage from 12:45 to 12:55.

To state the obvious, these meals are free to the kids, but hungry adults will have to make a 5 dollar donation.  This has been a long but information-packed Voice of Vashon Public Service Announcement.
