PSA ~ VCC Wine and Words

March 6th, 2021 by VoV

Vashon Community Care is launching a new Speaker Series called Wine and Words featuring authors and speakers discussing topics and issues important to Vashon residents.
As the first guest in the Words and Wine lineup, we are thrilled to host bestselling author Elizabeth Berg. She will read (via Zoom) from I’ll Be Seeing You: A Memoir, at 5 p.m. Saturday, March 20.
The book, which she published to acclaim last October, tells the story of caring for her parents at the end of their lives. To the best of their ability, she and her siblings provided practical advice, emotional support, and direction to their parents, who were married for nearly 70 years. Her father had Alzheimer’s disease, and the couple—at their children’s urging—left their home to move to an assisted living facility to receive additional support.
Berg, 72, previously worked as a nurse for 10 years, which, she says, served as her “school” for writing—teaching her about human nature, hope and fear, love and loss, regret and triumph, and especially about relationships, which are central to her numerous novels as well as this poignant memoir.
Registration is free and is open on our website under “Upcoming Events.” The first 10
people to register will receive a free copy of the book and a bottle of wine. Later this year, look for additional events in the Words and Wine Line up.
