June 9th, 2020 by Susan McCabe

Merna Hecht

While our nation literally burns with outrage over injustices committed by authority against black people and other people of color.

Vashon Islander Merna Hecht has used poetry and visual art to collect stories from young refugees arriving in the US just prior to the COVID pandemic and civil unrest. Vashon photographer David Lynch photographed each young person in this year’s project and islanders Richard Rogers and Jenna Riggs have served as graphic designers for a collection of eye-catching visual poems and self portraits. A forthcoming book of this work from the Stories of Arrival project is titled “We Are the Future: Poems with a Voice for Peace.”

Join host Susan McCabe and her guest, Merna Hecht, to hear some of these stories and the young peoples’ dreams for the future, both here and in their home countries. It’s sure to be REAL.
