P2P! (Virtual Passport2Pain) – Sept. 19, 2020

August 30th, 2021 by Jeff Hoyt

First there was the pandemic, forcing the 10th annual Passport2Pain bike ride around Vashon Island to go virtual. Riders were encouraged to tackle whatever hills were near their homes. Then came the smoke, and the organizers extended the deadline for getting rides completed by an extra week. Finally…RAIN! Sweet, welcome rain. The newly sickened streets, though, forced Vashon’s Junior rowers to delay their Triple Everest Summit attempt an extra week.

About the only thing this year that went off as scheduled was the live radio broadcast on Voice of Vashon, hosted by Jeff Hoyt and Jim Marsh, and featuring the songs riders submitted to help them climb the toughest of hills. Also, event co-Producers Colby Atwood and Zabette Macomber gave away prizes; sponsors Kelly Straight (Straight on Strength) and Chris & Jessica Kudla (Normal Bicycles) made appearances; Bruce Morser described the worst of P2P’s famed hills; and The Burma Devil overcame endless obstacles to arrive at the studio just before the end of the show.

There will never be another P2P quite like this one, so, of course, we captured it for all eternity!
